The Best Pens

in the World

The Most Expensive Pen Ever

When most of us dream about our financial future, we dream of all our bills being paid off. No more mortgages or car payments. Hopefully we’ll have a nice little nest egg so that when we hit retirement we won’t need to worry about money any more, perhaps do a little bit of travelling.

The individuals who can afford the unbelievable fountain pens below live in a different world than us. They spend more on their writing utensils than many of us have spent on all our assets combined. Take a step out of the world that you know, and indulge your curiosity for a moment as you consider the most expensive pen ever created.

Meet The Most Expensive Pen Ever:  The Fulgor Nocturnus

Most Expensive PenThis stunning fountain pen piece snagged the title of “World’s Most Expensive ” in 2010 when it sold at an auction in Shanghai for a staggering $8 Million. Well it looks really nice, but what justifies the price tag right? Well for starters it’s adorned with over 1,000 black diamonds and rubies. Secondly it’s made by the Italian company Tibaldi, which is one of the most well known manufacturer’s when it comes to fine pens. However, there is also more to this pen that meets the eye upon first glance.

The Fulgor Nocturnus, the only of it’s kind made, was designed and crafted based on the Divine proportion of Phi (aka the Golden ratio). Essentially what it means is that the proportion between the pen’s cap and the portion of the barrel that is visible equals the above named ratio of 1.618. While it may seem a little like overkill to some, the point is that everything about this most expensive pen is deliberate.

So where can you pick one of these baby’s up? Well that’s another factor that drives up the price on this fountain pen. You see, it is the only one ever made, and it’s currently not for sale. So while it is the “Most Expensive Pen Ever” it’s not the “Most Expensive Pen Available.”

“Which one is”, you ask?

Meet The Most Expensive Pen Available: The Diamante

Most Expensive PenOne look at this pen and you know that it pricey. How pricey? $1.47 Million to be exact, but here’s the kicker: Even if you do happen to have the funds to buy this flashy pen, only one Diamante is made available for sale each year. To say they can be a little hard to find is an understatement.

The pen, manufactured by Aurora, has a solid platinum barrel in which 30 Carats of De Beers Diamonds are encrusted. It’s nib is also made out of 18-karat solid gold. In layman’s terms: “It’s shiny!”

So it is true what they say. The best pens are made in Italy. Well I don’t know if that’s really what they say, but if not they should! Both of these pens were designed and manufactured by well known long standing pen manufacturing companies. When most people think of Italy they think of gondolas, opera, or pizza, but from now on you’ll think of pens!
